Events take place at permanent venues, using a mixture of surfaced and off-road sections. According to circuit length, between six and ten cars compete at once, competing both against each other and against the clock.

A series of qualifying heats is followed by Finals for each category and a typical event will contain 40 to 50 races.

There are four main categories of car, ranging from low cost entry-point Stock Hatch and Minicross classes through Modified (two-wheel drive) to the top class Supercars.

There is also a Junior category for 14 to 16-year-olds driving controlled specification Minis.
